Second crash on Tonbridge Road in Barming, by junction of Western Road, in months

Emergency services were called to a two-car crash at a junction branded a "death trap" by concerned neighbours.

The collision happened along Tonbridge Road in Barming, near Maidstone, last night (March 27) at around 8.42pm.

The road was blocked for some time by emergency vehicles at the junction of Western Road.

Nearby resident Andy Fraser saw the collision from his window.

“I was having a nap at home when I heard the crunch which woke me up,” he told KentOnline. “There was arguing and shouting in the street.

“It’s the same old problem at the same old place – too many speeding drivers.

“People continue to drive like idiots here. It is a death trap.”

Police confirmed they were sent to the two-vehicle collision to assist medics, where minor injuries were reported.

A spokeswoman for the ambulance service said: “We were called at approximately 8.42pm yesterday to reports of an RTC on the Tonbridge Road in Maidstone.

“Crews assessed and treated one patient at the scene before discharging them from our care.”

Just over four months before – and in the same spot – a man in his 50s had to be airlifted to hospital after a crash involving a car and pedestrian.

The main route was taped off and shut for the rest of the night while forensics worked on the road.

Andy says accidents like this one have been “happening for decades”.

“We need action – I’ve probably seen almost 100 accidents here from my window,” he added.

“It’s a blind junction and is so difficult to pull out.

“People also wait to turn right and pull in and the drivers behind are on autopilot and don’t stop.

“Speed bumps would help immensely. I’m fed up with seeing people being taken into ambulances on my doorstep.”
