Doctor Who fan Peter Trott has huge collection of Daleks and memorabilia in his Paddock Wood home

Is this the home of Kent's number one Doctor Who fan?

Peter Trott thinks so... and who could argue, as he stands surrounded by two Daleks, a space age sci-fi control panel from the cult show and a robotic dog?

Sipping from his Doctor Who mug, Peter of Paddock Wood says: “I’d like to be known as Kent’s number one fan: it might be unfair on others in the county but I do consider myself one of the biggest fans.

“My first Doctor Who item was actually a Christmas present from my parents.

"I was a lucky boy - I got a Doctor Who Monster book and a War of the Daleks board game, and it’s just gone from there since then.”

Recalling his first recognition of the show in 1974 as a "magical experience", the 44-year-old’s collection has in fact developed over four decades of collecting across his house.

With shelves of books, toys, life-size models, pictures, a pin ball and games machine – even a full size tardis spread across four rooms.

Some of the most impressive items in his collection include the Time Lord's arch nemesis – The Daleks.

“I’ve got four in the house and one in the shed, which is an old children's ride.”

“I can’t actually tell you how many I have in the house in total. I’ve got hundreds. I need to sit down and count them all.”

Scattered around his home are numerous pictures of Peter with legendary actor Tom Baker, who played the role for seven years between 1974 and 1981.

“He was my Doctor. I grew up with him and he was the first actor I watched in the role.

"I’ve met him a number of times but I really don’t know what he would make of all this.

“People who have never seen it before and come into the house probably think I’m a little bit mad, but friends and family close to me don’t see it as anything other than normal now.”

Asked what the Time Lord-obsessive would choose to save if his house was on fire, Peter said: “That’s a difficult question.

"There are about four things I would have to come back for - including original oil paintings of Tom Baker, some of my full-size Daleks and an original costume worn by Elizabeth Sladen, who played the Doctor’s sidekick Sarah Jane Smith.

“The whole collection means a lot to me.

"I’ve been buying bits and pieces all my life and they have come from all kinds of places a number of them tell a story, it represents a passion and a life’s work.”

Peter said he would love his own museum to house his collection, but until then his own house is a gallery of exhibits.

Thankfully, like the Tardis, it seems to expand to fill all his memorabilia.
