A special Spitfire flypast will take place over parts of Kent this afternoon to mark the 75th anniversary of VE Day.
The Second World War aircraft will take to the skies to commemorate the historic occasion, honouring county veterans by flying over their home towns.
The Daily Mail has organised the event, having been granted a special one-off exemption against current Covid-19 aviation advice by Transport Secretary Grant Shapps.
It will begin in Waterlooville, Hampshire, setting out north to the home of fundraising hero Captain Tom Moore in Marston Mortaine, Bedfordshire, before flying southeast over Sevenoaks and Maidstone and then down to East Sussex, finishing its loop along the south coast.
Kent D-Day veteran George Batts MBE, who lives in Barming, near Maidstone, landed on Gold Beach during the Normandy Landings and spent five days clearing landmines before fighting his way across Europe.
The 94-year-old has been a driving force behind the Normandy Memorial Trust and says he is "thrilled" he'll see the Spitfire fly overhead this afternoon.
According to The Daily Mail, the flight is taking place early this afternoon, but no specific timings have been released.
The Care For Veterans website, however, reports that the flyover will be passing over Worthing at about 1.20pm, suggesting the plane will take off shortly after midday.
