A woman has died and a man is critically ill in hospital after a crash on the M26 near Wrotham this morning.

Kent Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit is appealing for witnesses to the collision, which happened on the coastbound carriageway of the motorway, near the M20 slip road, shortly before 9.30am.

Ambulance crews and the Air Ambulance attended and the man was taken to the Royal London Hospital.

Police have not yet revealed the identity of the casualties.

Both carriageways were closed after the crash, but have now been reopened.
