A woman was left shaken but unhurt after she was grabbed by a man claiming to be her taxi driver.

The assault happened in Middle Row in Maidstone at around 3am on Easter Monday.

The man grabbed the woman, in her 20s, before making off across the High Street and into Pudding Lane.

The offender is described as Asian, between 30 and 35, and was wearing dark trousers.

DS Paul Turner of Mid Kent's area crime unit, said: "Although the woman was not hurt she was left shaken by the incident.

"We are keen to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time or may recognise the description of this man. We are especially keen to speak to another man who went to the woman's aid after the assault and may have seen the offender. He is white, in his early 20s and about 6ft tall."

Anyone with information is asked to call Kent Police on 01795 419182 or Crimestoppers in confidence on 0800 555111, quoting crime number CY/6358/11.
