Businesses are being seen as the key to promoting Maidstone's new Jubilee Square.
The council is looking for an individual or company to promote the new Jubilee Square (pictured above on its opening day in June) and the town’s other assets.
Cabinet member Cllr Malcolm Greer (Con) said: “Commercialisation is the way ahead. We need to make a return on the borough’s assets to support our other activities.”
There is already interest in holding a Christmas market on Jubilee Square and a funfair operator has approached the council, eager to install a children’s ride during the holidays.
Cllr Greer said: “We need someone to promote the use of the square, the museum, Mote Park and our other assets.”
The council will be seeking tenders and is taking advice from officers at Poole council in Dorset who recently introduced a similar service.
Applications for the use of Jubilee Square are being dealt with by the council’s economic development manager John Foster.
Maidstone Town Centre Management have warned that the complexity of the application documents could be a disincentive and should be revised.
