Jack Evans says Maidstone must beat North Ferriby and start showing they are too good to go down.
Midfielder Evans is confident United have the quality to pull clear of trouble but feels they have to get the ugly side of the game right first.
Ferriby are second-bottom in the National League while Stones, in 18th, are five points clear of the relegation zone.
Evans was sent off in the away game, which Maidstone won 2-0.
Their workrate shone through that day and the same is required at the Gallagher on Saturday.
Evans said: “We’ve got to win the game in my opinion.
“We’ve got to start well, get the crowd on our side and take the game to them.
“We’ve got to work harder than them because they’re going to come and fight for their lives and we’ve got to do that as well.
“If we win the scrap we should have more quality when we get on the ball and we can’t afford not to take our chances.
“Every single player’s got to be on top of their game and get us out of this now.
“As players, we’re too good to be where we are but we’ve got to do the horrible side of the game. We’ve got to work even harder now to get out of it.
“We were too good for them up there but that’s because we did the horrible side first and let our football do the talking after that.
“We can’t let anyone down, we can’t let ourselves down, we can’t let the manager down, we can’t let the fans down.”
