Maidstone boss Jay Saunders believes full-time football would help Alex Akrofi fulfil his potential.

Striker Akrofi has left Stones for Ryman League Hastings after cutting short a loan spell at Concord.

Saunders is certain the 21-year-old will be a success at Pilot Field but can see him playing higher again.

He said: "To be fair, I feel if a full-time club was to get him in and work with him every day, they’d get a lot more out of him.

"But when you’re doing two nights a week it’s very difficult because he does need a lot of work.

"But he’s got stuff like raw pace and that desire that you can’t put into a player, so I think he’ll go on and have a good career."

Akrofi's transfer to Hastings sees him link up with Stones old boys including Steve Watt, Frannie Collin and Matt Bodkin.

He started the season on loan at Concord in National South but the move didn't work out.

Saunders said: "He’s had a bit of a tough time at Concord and I had a good chat with him and he just felt he needed to restart his career.

"He knows the boys down at Hastings, he’ll cause problems all day long at that level.

"He did well for us last year. He came in when we had that 11-game unbeaten run and was very good for us.

"I just felt he probably didn’t score enough goals at this level.

"He would cause problems in other areas but probably the goalscoring was what let him down.

"But he was a great lad, I wish him all the best and hope he kicks on."
