The Mote chairman Glenn Aukett is hoping young Australian paceman Louis Cameron will spearhead the club’s bid to win promotion from Division 1 of the Kent League this coming season.

Aukett, who stepped down after playing 20 years in the first XI at the end of last season, finalised the deal this week to bring Cameron, 22, here for the summer.

He is due to arrive in mid-April and Aukett said he was looking forward to seeing him unleash his firepower.

He said: “He comes highly rated and appears to be what we need to get into the Premier Division. A big fast bowler is something we haven’t had for a while – that can put a bit of fear in the opposition batsmen. It’s exciting to sign someone of his calibre.”

Cameron has played two first-class games for Victoria after making his debut in the Sheffield Shield clash against New South Wales at the Sydney Cricket Ground in November, 2012.

His team-mates included Australian representatives Chris Rogers, Aaron Finch, David Hussey, Cameron White, Glenn Maxwell and John Hastings.

He took 3-61 off 19 overs in the first innings – one of his scalps was Kent’s overseas player last season, Doug Bollinger. He went wicketless in the second innings and also failed to take a wicket in his other first-class game, against South Australia at MCG.

But he did take a wicket after opening the bowling against the touring England Lions for a Victorian XI in 2012. He removed Warwickshire opener Varun Chopra on his way to taking 1-44.
