Blades deny mocking boys team

SHEFFIELD United's player-coach Stuart McCall says he is "disappointed, saddened and amazed" after receiving a complaint about the alleged behaviour of his players in Maidstone's Mote Park.

Members of the Yorkshire side were training before their 3-0 win over Gillingham three weeks ago when members of the Wateringbury boys team claimed they were being mocked by the Division One side's players.

But in a five-page faxed reply to Wateringbury FC, McCall said he totally refuted allegations that bad language had been used and said that the Wateringbury side had completely misread the situation.

McCall said that he had joked that the Wateringbury players were better than United's and that the Wateringbury manager must have recently undergone a humour by-pass.
