Boreham Wood and Maidstone drew 0-0 in the FA Trophy first round on Saturday.

It was a lively game, despite the lack of goals, with the National League rivals meeting in a replay at the Gallagher on Tuesday night.

The first half was quiet in terms of chances but there were a number of decent performances in the Maidstone side.

Dan Sweeney was on his game in midfield, Jack Evans added bite and Tom Mills and Callum Driver defended well against Wood’s dangerous widemen.

Boreham Wood looked to force the early pressure - Bruno Andrade in particular a tricky customer on the right - but they looked vulnerable on the break, both from balls over the top and when United played through midfield.

Bobby-Joe Taylor threatened a couple of times for Maidstone, space opening up for a 30-yard drive that went inches over and then a strike from a similar distance was kicked off the line by keeper Grant Smith as it picked up pace off the wet pitch.

That second chance for Taylor came at the end of the half, by which time Maidstone were enjoying plenty of the ball and looking the better side.

Earlier, Wood’s Jamie Lucas - a late replacement for the injured Morgan Ferrier - headed over the best chance of the half after Andrade fed Angelo Balanta.

Driver wasn’t only defending well, he looked a threat bringing the ball into midfield.

But when he fed Taylor, who was floored without a foul being given on the hour, it gave Anthony Jeffrey a free run up the left with the Wood man lashing over.

Jeffrey sent another effort over soon after, taking Femi Ilesanmi’s pass first time as the hosts got on top.

The pace in both sides came to the fore as the game became stretched midway through the second half although for Maidstone, as at Bromley last week, the final ball was the problem.

They did get it right moving into the final 15 minutes, Jamar Loza skinning his man and squaring for substitute Ben Greenhalgh, who was denied by Smith.

Greenhalgh worked Smith again and Taylor fired wide after a decent run down the left, while Lee Worgan got down sharply to hold Ricky Shakes’ strike at the other end.
