Frannie Collin reckons Maidstone would have challenged for the title had he made more of his chances.

Collin took his tally for the season to 30 by scoring the opening goal at Met Police on Easter Monday he feels he should have done even better.

Maidstone trail Ryman League Premier Division champions Wealdstone by 15 points but Jay Saunders’ men could easily be right up there with them.

Collin said: “I didn’t set a target but no forward can complain about scoring 30 goals.

“To be honest, though, my form in the second half of the season hasn’t been what I’d like it to be. I don’t mean to sound arrogant but I should have had more given the way I started the season.

“As a team we haven’t been at our best in the second half of the season. I could be 10 goals better off and the team would be 15 or 20 points better off.”

Stones were top of the table before a lengthy injury list triggered a slump in form that leaves them with only an outside chance of a play-off place going into the final game at home to Grays on Saturday.

Collin, who was among those sidelined, said: “If we’d kept everyone fit we’d at least be in the play-offs but we need to look at ourselves as well. We haven’t played as well as we could."
