The 23-year-old centre-back, who can also play at full-back or in midfield, goes straight into the Invicta squad for their Ryman League Premier Division trip to Havant & Waterlooville on Saturday (3pm).

Folkestone boss Neil Cugley said: “With a couple (of players) out through injury, and young Euan Sahadow away on tour with his school, we’re a little bit short on numbers at this moment and I’m delighted to have signed Callum.

“He’s a very useful player and I’m sure he’ll do well with us and fit in well with the rest of the lads.”

Davies may be asked to play in midfield alongside another former Maidstone player, Phil Starkey who joined Invicta just over 12 months ago and was a key player in last year’s promotion-winning side, earning their Players’ Player of the Year award in their championship season.

Davies, who made 29 appearances for Gills, has also had loan spells at Eastleigh, Bromley and Dover Athletic. He signed for the Stones in December 2015 and played 18 games, scoring three goals for Jay Saunders' side.
