Maidstone United defender Will De Havilland joins Dover Athletic on two-year contract

Will De Havilland has left Maidstone for Dover.

The big defender activated a relegation release clause in his Stones contract and will officially become a Whites player on July 1 after agreeing a two-year deal.

De Havilland adds to the collection of United old boys at Crabble, joining the likes of Lee Worgan, Kevin Lokko, Bobby-Joe Taylor, Jai Reason and Alfie Pavey.

The former Millwall and Sheffield Wednesday man initially joined the Stones on loan from Wycombe towards the end of the 2017/18 campaign before signing a two-year contract last summer.

But the deal included a release clause and De Havilland hinted he would be on his way after United’s National League relegation was confirmed.

An old-school centre-half, never afraid to put his head in where it hurts, De Havilland quickly become a crowd favourite at the Gallagher.

He was surprisingly dropped by former boss Harry Wheeler before Christmas but was restored to the starting XI and made stand-in captain by caretaker managers Tristan Lewis and Simon Walton while Blair Turgott recovered from his long-term knee injury.

De Havilland is Dover's fourth summer signing, following Yusuf Mersin, Jack Munns and Michael Woods to Crabble.
