A new ligament made out of donated tissue will fix Alex Flisher’s knee and get him playing again.

Flisher goes into hospital for an operation on February 24 knowing he should be back in a Maidstone shirt around the start of next season.

It’s two months since Flisher was injured in a Ryman League, Premier Division match against Bognor Regis.

He’s being treated by knee specialist Professor Anan Shetty at the Spire Alexandra Hospital in Chatham and is likely to be out for another six months.

Flisher said: “To the surgeon it’s a routine op that will take an hour or so but because it’s a whole new ligament, my knee needs time to adjust, which is why I’ll be out for so long.

“The ligament is coming from the National Tissue Bank.

“I had a tracking scan last Friday so he could check the tension he needs to put the ligament in at.

“It’s two to three weeks of complete rest and I’ll have crutches and a knee brace, then it’s three months until I can start running again.”
