Maidstone United goalkeeper Lee Worgan apologises for mistake in FA Cup defeat by Yeovil Town

Lee Worgan apologised for the goal that saw Maidstone knocked out of the FA Cup - but there was no need.

Worgan took the blame for Wes Fogden's 55th-minute strike as Yeovil won 1-0 at the Gallagher Stadium on Sunday.

The keeper - brilliant all season - was caught out coming for a free-kick, allowing Fogden to pounce.

Stones boss Jay Saunders was quick to put his No.1 straight when he said sorry to team-mates after the game.

Worgan said: "Jay straight away almost half had a go at me and said 'don't you dare apologise, you've kept us in so many games.'

"But I've got to do that because now it's done. I will always hold my hands up.

"I'm not going to make any excuses, it's my fault and you've just got to get on with it. All the boys are brilliant. They're right behind me."

A week ago Worgan was compared to Gordon Banks after a wonder save at Concord.
He won't let the mistake against Yeovil affect him.

He added: "I'm big enough and old enough and ugly enough to take it on the chin and I'll get on with it.

"It's not going to affect my confidence in any way. It's one of them that happens. That's the life of a goalkeeper.

"One week you make a save to keep your team in the game, the next week you knock your team out of the FA Cup."
