Goalkeeper Lee Worgan is not prepared to let Maidstone players waste their talent.

The captain let rip in the dressing room after Stones lost to Gateshead – his 150th consecutive league appearance – and got a response in the 2-2 draw at Sutton.

He said: “People get the impression that I’m a little bit quiet and I’m not – I’m far from it in the changing room.

“I’ve got to try and fire the boys up but I can be quite emotional when it comes to losing football matches. We came in Saturday and I think I smashed the door and lost my head a little bit.

“It’s nothing personal with the boys, it’s more that they’re such a talented group of players but we were just being really naive in our decision-making.

“Some of them, if they sharpen up on their basics, can kick on, which is what they want to do.”

Stones produced a stirring comeback from 2-0 down to earn a point at Sutton on Tuesday night and Worgan added: “It’s a great reaction and the character was superb. Hopefully, that point stops the rot but it’s a difficult league.

“We’re all buzzing in there and we’ve just drawn 2-2.

“It’s only a point but it’s a point in the right direction and it was a fantastic team performance.

“We’ve got a great dressing room and a good young bunch of players and we don’t just want to sit and struggle in this league."

Worgan starred against Sutton, extraordinary saves from Rory Deacon’s volley and Kevin Amankwaah’s header the pick of his night’s work.
