Jonny Edwards has become the second player in as many days to leave Maidstone.

The 23-year-old forward signed in the summer of 2019 from FC Halifax Town, but was one of five players placed on the transfer list by the National League South club last October.

Edwards made 20 appearances for the Stones scoring against Havant & Waterlooville and Kings Langley.

Stones head coach Hakan Hayrettin said: “Jon leaves with our very best wishes.

“If it wasn’t for time out with injury and an in-form Ibby Akanbi, he might have had a better run of the games.

“He’s a great character and a good personality, who fitted in very well with the rest of the lads, but sadly it hasn’t worked out for him here.”

Luton-born Edwards started his career with Stevenage before joining Peterborough.

Various loan spells followed before a move to Hull City on a one-year deal.

He subsequently had loans with Accrington Stanley and Woking before moving to Halifax in 2018.

His depature from the Gallagher Stadium follows that of defender Luke Pennell who left by mutual consent on Thursday.
