Aylesford coach Richard Garrett applauded the way his players battled during their 62-0 hammering by Maidstone – and he wasn’t the only one.

Garrett said: “The referee said he was pleasantly surprised at how our players kept going even though the score was mounting up in the second half.

“The lads didn’t drop their heads and the recurring positive for me this season has been the commitment and perseverance of the players. In our situation, you can’t ask for any more than that.”

The Bulls have lost all 10 games so far this season in London 2 South East and Garrett added: “Our pack was competitive throughout the game but it was in the backline, where the majority of our player development is going on, that we again struggled.

“At one point in the second half I had to play two back rows and a hooker in the backline and you can’t expect anything like that.”

The Bulls are without a match this weekend but return the following week with another tough fixture when they welcome second-in-the-table Medway.
