Maidstone United goalkeeper Lee Worgan draws comparisions with England legend Gordon Banks after wonder save against Concord Rangers

It’s no wonder Lee Worgan is confident going into FA Cup weekend after being compared to one of the all-time greats.

The Maidstone keeper’s wonder save at Concord last weekend was reminiscent of Gordon Banks’ brilliance to deny Pele in the 1970 World Cup in Mexico.

And that’s no cheap line – nobody could quite believe what they’d seen as Worgan got down to Steve Cawley’s header and turned it over the bar.

Cawley went for the near post from Ben Greenhalgh’s cross and somehow Worgan adjusted and made the save.

The former Wales under-21 international even surprised himself. He said: “I did hear all the Welsh Gordon Banks stuff and it’s good. It was brilliant to make the save. I’m just fortunate I’m able to make them at the moment."

Worgan expects to be busy when United take on League 2 Yeovil on Sunday but fancies their chances of reaching round two for the second year running.

He said: “I think when you experience what we did against Stevenage and then at Wrexham, I’m going into this game quite confident.

“Saying that, you’ve got to treat Yeovil with respect. They were in the Championship two years ago and everyone’s got to bear in mind that we are the underdogs, as well as we’ve been doing in the league."
