Hakan Hayrettin watched Maidstone advance in the FA Cup and declared: Job done.

The Stones beat Isthmian League Cheshunt 4-1 at the Gallagher Stadium yesterday, earning £6,750 in prize money.

They’re through to Monday’s third qualifying round draw after goals from Matt McClure, Ibby Akanbi, Iffy Allen and Noah Chesmain.

The visitors were briefly back in the game at 2-1 early in the second half but Maidstone rarely looked troubled.

Head coach Hayrettin: “It was a job done. We started well and scored a good goal from a set-piece we’ve been working on.

“We took our foot off the pedal a little bit but the most important thing was to get through this round and we achieved that.

“We know we can play better but it’s cup football and anything can happen.

“It was a sloppy goal to concede - I think it got a deflection - but it gave us a bit more of a push and a second wind to get going again.

“Listen, I’m not going to talk it up, I’m not going to talk it down.

“It’s a cup game, we got through, we played OK, we can play a lot better, but we got through, which is important.

“It’s a bit of revenue for the club, we’re in the hat for the next round and it gives us a little more confidence.”

Sam Corne and Ryan Johnson returned from injury and Justin Amaluzor (ribs) should follow next week.

Hayrettin said: “It’s vitally important we’ve got a fit squad to choose from.

“We haven’t had that since day one - I don’t know why - but people are picking up little injuries and pulls.

“Hopefully from next week we’ve got a healthy squad to pick from.

“Justin’s fit - he’s back next week.”
