Hakan Hayrettin told Maidstone players they were a disgrace following their defeat by Altrincham.

The Stones boss also apologised to supporters after the 3-2 loss at the Gallagher Stadium on Saturday.

A number of fans headed for the exits after the visitors went 3-1 up still with 17 minutes to play, and Hayrettin could understand their frustration.

He let his side know exactly how he felt in the dressing room after the game.

“I told them they’re a disgrace,” said Hayrettin. “They can’t go out there and play like that.

“I’m being honest, and I’m too honest sometimes, but we were nowhere near it from start to finish.

“We were off it and I don’t know why. That’s not us. We have a go, don’t we? I can’t try and kid people after that performance. How can I?

“I apologise to the supporters. Whatever happens, I always used to say they’re going to fight and they’re going to have a go. But there was no fight today.”

Maidstone, who remain 20th in the National League, were level at half-time thanks to Regan Booty’s penalty.

Booty scored again at the end but Altrincham saw out the last few minutes for a deserved victory.

New loan signing Sha’mar Lawson was the only player to partially escape criticism from the manager, who hadn’t seen the performance coming after recent improvements.

“The spirit was good before the game, everything was right but we weren’t at the races, simple as that,” said Hayrettin.

“I can’t say 'he did well and he did well' because no one did well.

“I thought the kid from Millwall was all right but he got booked and pulled a bit of a muscle so I had to take him off, but the rest of them weren’t at it, and that’s the truth.

“That’s what irritates me because I pride myself on getting my teams ready to go out and the least they’ve got to do is put in a shift.

“Today, we didn’t even do that. I demand that, and I didn’t get it.”
