Jake Hill is set to remain with West Surrey Racing next season after enjoying his best-ever year in the British Touring Car Championship.

The Platts Heath charger, 29, took his sixth win of the campaign at Brands Hatch on Sunday after completing a sensational overtake in the final race of the year.

He says "nothing is signed” for 2024 but he plans to handle a BMW 330e again after finishing ahead of team-mate and four-time champion Colin Turkington in the drivers' standings for the second consecutive season.

"We've come out as the top BMW driver again with six wins and six further podiums so overall it's been a successful season," Hill told KentOnline after Sunday's last race on the Grand Prix circuit.

"It's been a good year and one to make improvements on but I am looking forward to going again next year.

"Nothing is signed, sealed and delivered yet but that [staying at WSR] is what I am hoping to do."

Hill, who started the season finale from fourth position, took to the grass to pass both Josh Cook and Stephen Jelley at Westfield in a move he will "remember for a long time".

He was called to the officials as they looked into a potential track-limits breach, but the former Ginetta ace escaped punishment and could celebrate his first-ever BTCC win at his favourite circuit.

He had finished sixth in the first two contests despite feeling "pretty ill" during the weekend.

"Ironically today was one of those days where we struggled with the car," added Hill, who scored four victories on the Grand Prix loop at the Super Touring Power event in July.

"Yes, we won race three but that's what soft tyres and a clear road ahead does for you.

"But I'm impressed with myself and how I have done this year.

"I love my engineer Craig [Porley] to bits and we got on really well so hopefully we can continue that as well. Our relationship is one I never want to break."

Hill's six victories, double that of 2022, helped him to third in the overall standings, behind only Tom Ingram and Ash Sutton, who secured his fourth title on Sunday.

Driving for Wrotham-based Alliance Racing - formerly Motorbase Performance - the Bishop’s Stortford racer wrapped up the title with victory in the opening race.

He scored another win in race two before dropping to 13th in the finale after a trip across the grass on the Cooper Straight forced him to pit.

Oly Collins, team manager at Alliance Racing, who run under the NAPA Racing UK banner, says the Ford Focus ST squad have enjoyed an "incredible” season.

"Every single record we set out to achieve, we have, and we now need to look at how we better it next year," he said.

"At the moment the plan is to keep the Focuses.

"We were looking at another project a year ago [an Audi A5] but we weren't permitted to do what we wanted to do by the championship and the other teams, which was a big shame.

"But it gave us a bit of resilience and we turned the Ford around and beat them with that instead."

The team, set up by David Bartrum in 2004 but owned by former Porsche racer Pete Osborne since early 2021, are to leave their base on Wrotham’s Tower Industrial Estate for a new home in the Midlands.

They closed their Kent chapter in style on Sunday by claiming their first overall drivers' title with Sutton and beating BMW to the manufacturers' crown by four points.

"It's been a fantastic year and to finish on such a high with two wins and a nail-biting last race to get the manufacturers' title over the line was brilliant," Collins added.

"We are now moving into lovely new premises - a lot bigger than what we are used to at the moment - and that gives us the opportunity to grow into other areas of motorsport.

"We have already got a MINI Challenge team, and will bring that fully in-house, all under one roof, and will possibly go into some other areas as well.

"We are not going to do anything too rash, too quickly - we have got a really good team and we don't want to disrupt that.

"But we do have plans to grow this to a bigger team and maybe do some global stuff."

Collins says racing in GT3 sportscar racing could be an option - something Motorbase previously did with Aston Martins.

But he stressed any other projects "won't be immediate as we need to focus on the touring car team".

The British Touring Car Championship will visit Brands Hatch on May 11-12 and October 5-6 2024.
