Ben Jelf will go in search of his 17th British title at the CPA British Sprint Championship in Stewartby, Bedford, this weekend.

Maidstone’s Jelf, who's currently competing in the UIM F1H2O World Championship, will not be back in action until the championship moves to China in October.

With a break from his normal racing, he jumped at the chance when offered the opportunity to compete in the British Championship in the newly-built Tintorera Racing GT30 Hull - built in Kent.

The 24-year-old has already won five British titles in the GT30 class and claimed the European GT30 title in 2014.

Jelf will face some serious competition from the rest of the drivers in the GT30 fleet who compete regularly in the class, with Jelf having raced the class just once a few weeks ago since 2018.

The sprint championships are a stand-alone event, which consists of qualifying and four heats of racing to determine the British sprint champions at the end of the weekend.

He said: "I'm honoured that Tintorera Racing have asked me to race again in their new hull for the British Sprint Championship.

"It's still early days with the boat but, at the last round of the British Championship, by the end of the weekend, we were really beginning to push the frontrunners. So, it will be interesting to see what we can achieve this weekend.

"It would be fantastic to secure my 17th British title but I'll settle for some close racing and a podium finish."
