Maidstone United have served up 1,400 free lunches since Marcus Rashford launched his campaign to stop children going hungry.

The Stones Community Trust got behind the Manchester United star's fight during the summer holidays and are back in the kitchen this October half-term.

They've been doing door-to-door deliveries for children living in Mangravet, Park Wood and Shepway.

And, from tomorrow, SCT staff will be based at the Fusion Healthy Living Centre, in Cobb Way, Park Wood.

Activity packs and a packed lunch will be available on Wednesday between 1pm and 3pm and Thursday and Friday from 11am to 3pm.

Community development officer Kay Skelton said: “We were hoping to run a full holiday programme this week but have prioritised the lunches for families as we know there’s a real need in the community for that.

“So many families rely on the school meal and some have difficult decisions to make every holiday.

“The club and subsequently the trust have run school holiday projects, which include a meal, for the last few years and the feedback really tugs on the heartstrings at times.”

Clear MPW Insurance Brokers, based at Turkey Mill, have donated towards the half-term food project to supplement SCT funds.

Stones chief executive Bill Williams said: “It’s wonderful to see communities coming together to provide support in these most challenging of times.

“I must pay tribute to Marcus Rashford for leading this campaign.

"He’s an exceptional young man who’s using his profile and influence for all the right reasons.

“From one MUFC to another, I am pleased to see our Community Trust building on the work they’ve done this year and supporting local children during this half-term break.”
