History was made as a long-running Kent golf tournament celebrated its first three-time champion.

Julia Martin Harper (The Ridge, Maidstone) took the ladies’ title in the Cecil Leitch 5 Club finals at Sheerness Golf Club.

She’s the first player - male or female - to become a triple champion since the tournament was first held in 1957.

Adding to her back-to-back 2011 and 2012 successes, Martin Harper (h20) finished with a winning score of 41 points.

She was a point clear of Amanda Sendall (Westerham, h29) while third place went to Alison Chapman (Rochester & Cobham, h13) on 37 points.

Sendall won the longest drive, with Lyn Baimbridge (Sundridge Park) winning the nearest the pin.

This year’s competition, organised by the Kent County Playing Fields Association, attracted more than 1,500 entries from all over Kent. Just 66 were standing by finals day.

The men’s winner was Ian Hinson (Etchinghill, h27) with a score of 40.

He edged runner-up Ben Taylor (Hever Castle, h5) by a point, with Chris Leeson (Sundridge Park, h8) third on 37.
