Hakan Hayrettin wants to see Maidstone start well for a change when they meet Dorking in the FA Trophy.

The Stones have made a habit of conceding the first goal in matches this season.

They’ve shown their fighting spirit to take 11 points from losing positions in National South - a quality Hayrettin admires - but he’d rather they made life easier for themselves.

United came from 2-0 down to draw at Dorking in the league last month, a game they should have won.

And now Hayrettin has challenged his side to be the ones in the ascendancy in tomorrow’s Trophy tie at the Gallagher.

He said: “I’m looking forward to it. It’s good to be back at home and hopefully we can build on the win at Eastbourne on Tuesday night.

“I was very pleased with the performance at Dorking in the league.

“What we sometimes lack a little bit in composure, we make up for in hard work and endeavour.

“In many games we’ve gone a goal down and come back.

“Now we want to see the other side of it, can we go in front, can we maintain it?”

Hayrettin has given an update on his transfer plans, revealing a chance to look at Football League players.

He’d previously expressed an interest in strengthening the squad, with players often becoming available at this time of year while Football League clubs conduct transfer window business.

“The market’s open,” said Hayrettin.

“Obviously Covid is a big factor in what we’re going to do but we have protocols in place to deal with it and there could be some players coming so we can have a look, from league clubs.”
