Penalty shoot-out hero Chris Lewington has started talks over a new deal at Maidstone.

Lewington saved three Bromley spot-kicks as Maidstone retained the Kent Senior Cup last night.

The goalkeeper revealed after the final that he's hoping to stay at the Gallagher Stadium in National League South next season.

He said: "We’ve spoken about potentially staying next year.

"We’re going to have a chat in the next couple of weeks and take it from there.

"I’ve enjoyed my time here, it’s been good, so I’m happy.

"If it works right for the club and it works right for me, then we can do something.

"It could be very exciting next year.

"I’ve obviously worked with the manager before and I’ve seen him build winning sides before and I’ve no doubt we’ll have a go next year and push as best we can to get back up."

Lewington denied Frankie Sutherland, Zavon Hines and George Porter as Maidstone beat Bromley 3-2 on penalties at Hayes Lane.

It was their third shoot-out win of the competition - all achieved with different goalkeepers.

Josh Strizovic made the decisive save in the quarter-finals at Dartford and it was Dion-Curtis Henry who denied Gillingham in the last four.

Lewington said: "It’s funny, me and the other two keepers, Dion and Josh, were talking about it.

"Josh was the hero in the quarter-final, Dion was the hero in the semi-final so I had to make some saves in the final otherwise it was my fault!

"It’s funny how it’s worked out.

"They’re two really good keepers and we wouldn’t have got here without them.

"I’ve enjoyed the penalty shoot-out.

"It was a good game, quite a battle.

"It was quite even throughout most of the game.

"I think we started off a little bit shaky but we got into it, we settled down and had a right good go at them and a couple of good chances.

"It’s a lottery when it goes to penalties."
