Jermaine McGlashan has left Maidstone to take his first steps into management.

The former Gillingham winger has been named player assistant boss at Isthmian Premier strugglers Leatherhead.

McGlashan, 33, joined the Stones as a free agent in the summer after a spell playing in Cyprus.

He featured mainly from the bench, with Roarie Deacon and Joan Luque the first-choice widemen, but his quality was clear whenever he came on.

While known as a winger, he proved a more-than-capable right-back when Maidstone found themselves short in defence, producing outstanding displays against Dartford and Welling during their six-match winning run.

McGlashan will work under new Leatherhead boss Luke Tuffs, with the Tanners bottom of the Isthmian Premier, eight points from safety.

“Absolutely delighted to join Leatherhead as player assistant manager,” wrote McGlashan on Twitter.

“A new challenge and one I can’t wait to start.”

Thanking the Stones, he added: "What a club, what a set of fans. Been an absolute pleasure. No doubt I'll be down supporting and rooting for that promotion push."
