Fans’ favourite Rory Hill is among four players who have been told to prove their fitness before landing new deals at Maidstone United.

Hill, fellow winger Orlando Smith, right-back Richard Davies and midfielder Nathan Campbell have been invited to pre-season training but must convince boss Jay Saunders they are over their injury problems.

Davies’ promising start to his Stones career was cut short by a cruciate ligament injury a month into the season.

Smith missed most of the campaign after two knee operations, Hill suffered a series of injuries, while Campbell had a foot problem.

Saunders said: “They understand there’s deals there for them but Rory was more disappointed. He probably felt he’d done enough.

“He’s a good player when fully fit but he did miss a lot of games with different injuries.

“The club looked after him while he was out and now he needs to come back and prove his fitness."

Stones are in contract talks with midfielder Alex Brown and right-back Elliott Cox, with Saunders hopeful of answers by the end of the week.
