John Still’s first match back in charge of Maidstone ended in defeat at National League leaders Leyton Orient.

United frustrated the O’s early on but the hosts picked up after Jordan Maguire-Drew broke the deadlock.

Macauley Bonne doubled the advantage shortly after the break and Orient had several more chances to put the game to bed.

They eventually added a third in injury time when Bonne scored again from the penalty spot.

Maidstone looked nice and solid and were largely untroubled until falling behind.

They silenced the big home crowd early on, with everything seemingly going to plan, while looking a threat on the break.

Michael Phillips, back in midfield with on-loan West Brom youngster Dan Meredith making his debut at right-back, looked to release lone striker Jake Robinson several times in the opening stages.

A good chance then fell to Phillips after Jack Powell and Josh Taylor combined to send him through but he fired sraight at Dean Brill.

Tricky Orient Josh Koroma showed flashes of his talent, beating George McLennan, with Meredith clearing the danger at the far post, while Phillips stopped him in his tracks with a well-timed tackle.

Orient took the lead in the 34th minute with the ball dropping to Maguire-Drew following a long throw from Charlie Lee and he beat Ethan Ross.

Orient got on top after the goal, Koroma now popping up everywhere and looking a big threat as Justin Edinburgh’s men looked to double their advantage.

They nearly did in first-half injury time when Lee’s pass freed Bonne but Orient’s top scorer blazed over when through one-on-one.

Orient lost dangerman Koroma to a hamstring injury just after the break but had another good chance when Bonne set up Maguire-Drew, who missed the target.

Craig Clay’s effort was blocked by Jack Powell after a good run before Orient went two up in the 56th minute when Jobi McAnuff’s corner was nodded back across goal and Bonne stabbed home.

And it could have been three on the hour when Lee and Bonne split the Stones defence but Ross denied substitute Matt Harrold.

Maidstone introduced Elliott Romain in a switch to 4-4-2 and did get in the O’s box a few times but the hosts were looking comfortable and moving the ball nicely, leading to efforts from McAnuff and James Brophy.

A foul on Brophy saw Bonne send Ross the wrong way from the penalty spot as Orient made it three.
