Maidstone United’s next few results could determine whether or not their 3G pitch will be allowed in the Football Conference next season.

Current ground regulations mean the Stones wouldn’t be promoted into the Skrill South if they won the Ryman League, Premier Division title.

But the Stones want that rule changed and wrote to the Conference this week requesting 3G be given the green light by February.

League officials are meeting to review the use of 3G next month and Stones boss Jay Saunders knows his players’ performances between now and then are key.

He said: “We’ve got to get ourselves up and around (the top five) and be in that position because I’m sure that if we are up and around there, the club would have a better case than if we were mid-table and with nothing to play for.

“Oliver (Ash), Bill (Williams) and Terry (Casey) are working so hard behind the scenes to get it pushed through and we’ve got to make sure (we do our bit) on the pitch."
