One particular young club cricketer recently enjoyed quite the few days.

Having scored back-to-back centuries over a productive weekend, Kieran Savage celebrated his 21st birthday - all within four days!

“It was batting paradise with the weather we have had,” said Savage, whose tons for Teston were captured on camera by his dad Steve.

“I kind of felt sorry for some of the bowlers - not just the opposition ones, but our own bowlers as well. It was so hard to get anything out of the pitch!

“But it was a pretty good weekend of cricket. I was a bit shocked myself.”

Savage, a sales worker in Ashford, smashed 135 in a win against Sandhurst on Saturday, August 27, but certainly wasn’t expecting to rack up three figures again when he skippered the Sunday side who lost at Rainham by 17 runs the following day.

On his 133 not out against Rainham, Savage said: “That was definitely not what I was thinking at all!

“To be honest, I was hoping to keep them to a low score and just relax. They scored 250-odd (253-4) and I think I knew I was in good form so I had to go out there and get a good total - I really didn’t think I would get another hundred! It was a bit of a shock.

“They had an electronic scoreboard - usually I don’t like to know what I’m on - but I didn’t mind seeing it slowly trickle up there.”

The moments were made all the more special for the Savage family, with dad Steve, from Loose, capturing son Kieran’s impressive innings.

“He sort of sits at long-on most of the time, taking photos. He loves it, it’s a little hobby for him to get into,” said Kieran.

“I think a lot of the players love it - we get to see some interesting faces! One guy, in particular, loves a gurn. It’s quite amusing.

“When I got my first one last year, he sort of forgot to take any photos. He was just so happy.

“The only problem is (by the time he’s celebrating a ton) I look very sweaty.”

Savage now has four hundreds to his name having got his first one last year.

He said: “I got my first one last year. I had a year of 70s, 80s and 90s - some of them not outs - but just could not get over the line. Then I did.

“But I went skiing in December and got injured so I missed the first few months of the season. But then I got 144 not out - that’s my highest score.

“Now, I have got my second and third for this season so I have four in total.”

Savage loves playing for Teston and says he would encourage anyone interested in playing cricket to do so.

He said: “I captain the Sunday side. It’s just a great club, to be honest, I would recommend anyone come down and play for us.

“We have a lovely ground and the pitch is always good for our level.

"It’s quite a good time for Teston, especially the batting side of things. It’s good.”

And after such a memorable weekend on the field, Savage, who shared a 100-run stand with Matthew Fairway (32) at Rainham, couldn’t resist the chance to toast his batting success before his birthday.

He added: “I have to say the beer afterwards was even better!

"It was a good birthday weekend, I cannot ask for more.”
