Six-year-old boy racer Ethan Sparks is a serious talent.

Ethan, from Maidstone, reaches speeds of 50mph racing in the Cool FAB British Minibike Championship and already has a win under his belt.

He’s the youngest in a rookie class that’s for riders up to 11-years-old, but that hasn’t stopped him making a big impact.

His maiden victory came hundreds of miles away in Cumbria, while three more podium finishes see him overall fourth in the standings going into the next round in Lincolnshire.

Dad Gavin said: “He’s taken me by surprise. I didn’t think at his age he’d be quite so up there.

“He started at an academy in Swindon when he was five and if you reach a certain level, you can enter the British Championship. The rookie class, which he’s in, is restricted to 50mph which is still quite fast for a six-year-old.

“If you finish in the top six of the championship, you move to the next one up and they gradually build you up.

“It’s nerve-racking watching him. You wouldn’t believe how competitive he is and that goes for all the riders.

“Where he’s started so young, racing just feels normal to him. That’s the time to start. It’s turning into a big and popular sport.”

The series runs in partnership with the British Superbike Championship, with youngsters receiving their trophies at BSB meetings.

Races are also shown on digital station Motorsport TV, as well as being available online.
