Manager George Elokobi asked questions in both boxes after Maidstone’s draw with Bath on Tuesday night.
Goals from Mo Faal and Jacob Berkeley-Agyepong secured a point after United 1-0 and 2-1 at the Gallagher Stadium.
But Elokobi saw other good openings go begging while voicing concern at the goals they conceded, with Bath twice on target following crosses.
The point was enough, however, to return Maidstone to the National League South play-off places.
They’re up to seventh, a point clear of St Albans, their opponents at the Gallagher this Saturday.
“For the amount of chances we created we didn’t quite punish Bath enough,” said Elokobi.
“We knew we were going to create these chances. It’s about being composed and making sure we finish these attacks off.
“On the opposite side, defensively, I thought we switched off a couple of times and we got punished twice.
“We said this to our players, you can’t switch off, especially defensively, out of possession.
“Make sure we’re nice and organised, make sure defensively we’re solid. If we don’t stop the cross then can we defend our six-yard box properly and it’s cost us two points tonight.”
Maidstone looked the more likely winners in the closing stages but play-off rivals Bath - 3-0 victors in the early-season meeting - held on for a point.
Elokobi said: “I thought our forward play was very good in the second half.
“The last 15 minutes it looked like there was only going to be one winner in terms of how we pushed, how we created but the keeper made some fantastic saves.
“We came out to try and win the game. We switched things tactically to go for the three points but credit to Bath, they were resilient towards the end, but more so we’ve got to look at those chances we created.
“If we’d put one in the net that would have opened it for us to go and get more but it wasn’t to be tonight. We have to look at the positives.”
