Jay May led Maidstone to victory with a first-half double against Peacehaven on Easter Monday.

Stones remain five points clear at the top of the Ryman League Premier Division after title rivals Hendon, who have two games in hand, won at Wingate.

It took only four minutes for Maidstone to take the lead and what a goal it was as May tricked his way past a couple of challenges before finding the corner from 20 yards.

Billy Bricknell went close from May's pass and Bodkin fired wide after George Porter forced a mistake from the keeper, then Jack Parkinson perhaps should have scored after meeting a corner.

May had his second goal on 29 minutes, a clever back header inside the six-yard box from Porter's ball in, that after Bricknell's shot was blocked.

Bodkin and May were the main men in the first half and combined again before the break. This time, May fed Bodkin who worked his way into the box only to be denied by keeper Anthony De Barnardo.

Di Barnardo saved his side again early in the second half after Porter and May worked a one-on-one for Bricknell who looked certain to score.

Bricknell had another chance minutes later, dragging his shot wide with Bodkin screaming for a return ball.

Craig Stone denied Jamie Brotherton at the far post just after the hour as Peacehaven finally threatened.

A superb move started by May and featuring Jack Paxman, Alex Brown and Bricknell ended with the flying Tom Mills' shot being blocked.

Steve Watt's header from Bodkin's corner hit the side-netting moving into the last 10 minutes, then Frannie Collin was thwarted in a one-on-one from Paxman's clever pass.
Lee Worgan made an excellent late save after Jack McLean squared for Brotherton, a rare scare for United.

May almost had a hat-trick at the death, with Collin also going close with the last kick of the game.
