MAIDSTONE United FC's chairman Paul Bowden Brown has warned he will not subsidise his team for ever if it means using money earmarked for a new ground.
The postponement of this weekend's Kent Senior Trophy clash with Deal dealt the club another financial blow.
Bowden Brown complained that his outlay was not being justified. OK we’re top of the league, but Jim (Ward, the Stones’ manager) keeps telling me that the other clubs in this league are offering their players lots of money but that’s not what their chairmen tell me.
“If we don’t get some more money in soon I might have to cut his budget and just tell him to put the kids in, because they wouldn’t let anybody down. All right, we might not win the league with them, but what’s the point if we haven’t got the money left to build the ground?”
There were questions over the signing of Dave Fisher whom Ward had hoped to play against Deal, but the manager denied there was a problem: “There was never any issue between me and him over money.”
