Moves for two new players have fallen through ahead of Maidstone United's game at Billericay on Tuesday night.

Boss Jay Saunders revealed he was looking to strengthen his squad after Saturday's 1-0 defeat at AFC Hornchurch.

He was in talks with a centre-half and a midfielder but will now look elsewhere ahead of the March 31 transfer deadline.

Saunders said: "Both deals have fallen through. One of the players was injured at the weekend and the other one won't be coming as the club have changed their mind about letting him out on loan.

"It's not easy bringing in players at this time of year.

"Clubs are reluctant to let decent players go and it's hard getting people in for the right money but we've got until Monday so we'll keep trying."

Defender Jack Parkinson returns from a three-match suspension as United look to end a run of six away defeats that's threatened to derail their Ryman League Premier Division play-off push.

Winger Rory Hill (knee) is out while defenders Elliott Cox (knee), Jerrome Sobers (groin) and Graeme Andrews (foot) face fitness tests.

In-form Billericay have won their last three matches but have lost nine home games this season.

Saunders is confident Stones' away form will improve but expects a tough test in Essex.

He said: "If we keep putting in the effort we showed at Hornchurch then our luck will change sooner or later.

"I know Billericay have lost a few at home but it's always tough there.

"The lads are up for it and hopefully we'll get a result."
