Maidstone United manager Jay Saunders says opponents Whitehawk are the best attacking side in National South

The tightest defence in National South are up against arguably the best attacking side when Maidstone meet Whitehawk at the Gallagher on Tuesday night.

Second-placed United have conceded only 11 goals in 19 games while promotion rivals Hawks have scored 39 in 18, a tally bettered only by Oxford City.

If it’s half as entertaining as the FA Trophy meeting three years ago, when Tom Mills’ 30-yard stunner helped Maidstone claim a 3-2 upset, it should be a good night.

Maidstone boss Jay Saunders said: “For me, Whitehawk will be up there this season.

“If you look at the threat they've got going forward, attacking-wise they’re the best side in the league.

“It’s going to be a difficult one for us but it’s one we can look forward to.

“You've got to defend well because they've got players who don’t need two or three chances - they’ll get a chance and they’ll take it.

“It’s about making sure we’re nice and compact when we haven’t got the ball and looking after it when we’ve got it but I do think you can score goals against them and hopefully we will do that.”

Right-back Callum Driver is available after serving a one-game suspension against Truro.
