Maidstone already have a mental edge over their likely play-off opponents.

United completed the double over Truro last weekend, adding a 3-1 success to a 2-1 home victory in December.

The teams are set to meet again in the National League South play-offs next month, Stones already safe in third and Truro expected to finish fourth.

Maidstone manager Jay Saunders believes his side have given the Cornwall club plenty to think about.

He said: “It was important to go there and win if we’re going to meet them again in the
play-offs. When you’ve beaten a team twice there’s that psychological barrier and it puts doubts in their heads.

“That makes a difference but, at the same time, you’re trying to make your own players aware that just because you’ve beaten a team twice, it doesn’t meant it will be easy to do it again.

“The play-offs are completely different but it will be nice to go into them knowing we’ve done the double over Truro.”

United treated their flight to Cornwall as a trial run for the play-offs and are happy to fly again to the anticipated away leg on May 4.

Maidstone play their penultimate league game at resurgent Whitehawk on Saturday.

Joe Healy (knee) and Callum Driver (foot) are unlikely to be risked.
