Maidstone will not rush to replace Charles Banya after the winger left the club this week.

Banya travelled to training and matches in Manny Parry’s car last season but his lift disappeared when the centre-half was released last month.

The 22-year-old made it to the start of pre-season training but told Stones boss Jay Saunders the commute was going to be too difficult by public transport.

Saunders said: “I was a bit gutted with Charles because he’s someone I’d like to have kept around it.

“He lives in London and used to travel in with Manny Parry. He came to training the other night and had to get about four trains to get to us.

“With the money we’re paying him, it didn’t work out for him and he couldn’t drive.

“I understood and he’s got a couple of other options that are more local to him or clubs that might have someone who’s travelling in as well.

“It was something we felt would be best. It’s a shame because he’s a good lad and I still think there’s more to come from him but it’s one of those that just didn’t work.

“We’ll keep an eye on it. We have got options but is an area where possibly we might look to bring in one more wide man.

“It’s something we won’t rush into. There’s more and more every day, my phone is going mad with players but we’ll make sure that if we do it, we get the right one.”
