Stones play waiting game

MAIDSTONE UNITED will find out this weekend if they are eligible for promotion to the Dr Martens League. The club’s application has been put forward by the Bass Brewers Kent League but head of the DML competition’s ground grading committee, Barry Hughes, said there were still concerns over Maidstone’s bid.
“We have to be fair to all clubs,” said Hughes, “and there are strict rules relating to groundsharing. We know there are talks about a new stadium in Maidstone but football history is littered with such plans that never materialise.”
Even if their application is accepted Maidstone, who share Sittingbourne’s Central Park ground, must still finish in the top two of the Kent League and they dropped to third this week after Deal won 1-0 at Cray. Maidstone visit Slade Green on Saturday (Kick-off 3pm).
