Gillingham defender Josh Staunton has joined Maidstone United on loan.

The 19-year-old has come to help the Stones' title bid in the Ryman League Premier Division and will be with Jay Saunders' side until April 26.

Staunton has yet to make his league debut for the Gills although he has represented them in the Kent Senior Cup this season.

He arrives at the Gallagher Stadium as defensive cover for Stones captain Steve Watt, who picked up an injury during Saturday's 2-1 win over promotion rivals Margate.

Staunton is eligible for league leaders Maidstone's game at Grays on Monday night.
