Maidstone have brought another former player back to the Gallagher Stadium.

Hot on the heels of Sol Wanjau-Smith’s return, striker Matt Rush has rejoined on loan from Sutton until the end of the season.

Rush had an outstanding spell with the Stones after joining from Aveley early last season.

The ex-Southend man scored 14 goals, set up plenty more and worked his socks off as George Elokobi’s side reached the National League South play-off semi-finals.

He was offered a new deal in the summer but wanted to play higher and joined National League Sutton.

“We all know what Matt Rush brings to our environment,” said Stones boss Elokobi.

“A huge thank-you to Sutton for allowing Matt to come out on loan to us.

“We all wanted to keep Matt Rush here and that wasn’t possible at the time.

“He made a promise, a pledge, that if he was going to play again in the National League South, then it would be at Maidstone and that speaks volumes because he had other suitors.

“He’s an excellent player, so he’s always going to attract other clubs but Matt chose to come to Maidstone because he knows our environment really well.”
