Striker Josh Fawole dedicated Maidstone’s victory at Scunthorpe to the travelling fans.

Supporters have been through the mill over the past couple of months but continued to follow their team all over the country during a 12-match winless run.

About 200 made the four-hour journey to Scunthorpe last weekend and finally saw their team win a National League game for the first time since beating Aldershot at the end of August.

They made themselves heard all afternoon and Fawole was delighted to see them rewarded with a 2-0 success.

“It’s definitely been a while,” said the American forward.

“We’ve been really persistent in our efforts these past few matches and we’ve deserved the points.

“I’m proud of the boys. It was a great feeling at the end there.

“First of all, thank you to the fans. There were over 200 of them. Great support. We did it for them.

“They’ve been very supportive and we did it for them.

“We’ve not got a result like that in a while so it felt really good, just embracing that moment.

“It was great for the boys to put on a show for the fans.

“It’s easy for people to turn but they’ve shown great support.

“They’ve travelled, we’ve put on a great performance for them and it felt amazing.”

It was a fourth successive start for Fawole - all through the middle - and a first goal looks a matter of time.

He was denied by the woodwork for the second game running and once again worked tirelessly.

“I’m feeling better each match and growing into that moment where I’m going to get that breakthrough, that goal," said Fawole.

“It’s staying persistent and getting in the right areas and I know it will come off.

“Work rate is a staple to my game and what I pride myself on.

“That’s the bottom line for me. It’s something I bring to the table every time.

“It’s just matching that with the consistency and sharpness in and around the box.

“You know the goals are coming so you keep doing all the little things right and listening to your team-mates and the manager.”
