Sol Wanjau-Smith has rejoined Maidstone on loan from Bath until the end of the season.

The forward was released last summer after two years with the Stones and returned to his native south west to join the Romans.

He was left out of the Bath squad to play Maidstone at Twerton Park on Tuesday night - a match that finished 3-3 - as talks over a return to the Gallagher Stadium continued.

Wanjau-Smith, 25, first came to Maidstone’s attention after impressing against them for Hungerford during the 2021/22 National League South title-winning campaign.

He was Hakan Hayrettin’s first signing after promotion but knee injuries restricted his involvement as Maidstone were relegated after only one season back in the National League.

He hit the ground running last season, forming an excellent partnership with Levi Amantchi.

Indeed, it was Wanjau-Smith’s hat-trick in an FA Cup qualifier at Steyning Town that launched their history-making run to the fifth round.

An ankle injury ruled him out of Maidstone’s fourth-round win at Premier League-bound Ipswich and the last-16 tie at Coventry.

But he returned before the end of the campaign, scoring a spectacular goal in the Kent Senior Cup final victory over Ebbsfleet in April.

He’s been a regular in the Bath team this season but has taken the opportunity to return to Maidstone.

The Stones visit Salisbury in National League South tomorrow.
