Captain Steve Watt wants Maidstone to show a nasty side.

The defender feels Jay Saunders’ team need to be more streetwise if they are to win promotion from the Ryman League, Premier Division.

And he’s confident the arrival of experienced players like James Rogers, Jamie Coyle and Jay May will give them the edge they need.

Watt said: “The experience Jay has brought in will be a massive factor. Last year the young boys did well but we missed that bit of experience near the business end.

“We played great football but need a nasty streak. With the players we’ve brought in, that should be more evident.

“Being streetwise comes with experience. During games you can sense things happening and see things happening and do something about it.

“You can buy a free-kick and get in the referee’s ear, little things like that, if you need to win ugly.

“It’s about getting the right balance. Wealdstone won the league last season playing great football but they had another side to their game.”
