Reaching Twickenham is no longer enough for Maidstone Rugby Club captain Ben Williams.

Williams will lead out his side at the home of English rugby on Sunday determined to lift the Intermediate Cup in front of 1,000 travelling fans from the County Town.

Maidstone are up against Midlands club Bridgnorth who, like Williams’ men, won their league without losing a game.

Having lost in back-to-back semi-finals in the Senior Vase, the chance to finally play at Twickenham is special in itself – but it’s more than a day out.

Williams said: “Speaking to a few guys who’ve played there before, it’s when you line-up in the tunnel that it really hits you. It won’t be a full stadium but it will hit me hard when I lead the team out.

“We want to finish the season unbeaten. We don’t want our only loss to be at Twickenham, on such a special occasion.

“Before we got to the final, I was kind of saying the real final was the semi-final because the biggest prize was reaching Twickenham and that if we lost we’d be upset but could still say we’ve played there.

“But since we’ve won the semi-final, my attitude has changed. I want to go to the home of English rugby and win and complete the season undefeated.”
