A second-half header from Aristide Bassele moved Welling nine points clear of the relegation zone on Tuesday night.
The Wings won at bottom side AFC Telford thanks to goals after the break from Tyrone Marsh and Bassele.
With rumours continuing to link manager Jamie Day with the vacant job at Ebbsfleet, it was certainly a great way to sign off his five years in charge at Park View Road if the lure of a bumper budget at Stonebridge Road proves too good to turn down.
Day was named as a substitute as the Wings made one change from the team that faced Bristol Rovers on Saturday with Keiron St.Aimie replacing the injured Charlie Penny.
St.Aimie should have given Welling the lead just before half-time but he fired over the bar with just keeper Freddy Hall to beat.
Welling did take the lead straight after the interval, when Bassele turned and crossed for Marsh to tap home from close range.
Benji Buchel then denied Farrell at the other end before St.Aimie, playing against his former club, headed wide for the the Wings.
Andy Parry levelled for Telford from close range just after the hour but Welling were back ahead five minutes later.
Marsh repaid the favour this time, delivering the ball for Bassele to head in the winner.
It could have been more for the visitors but they successfully held on at the other end and moved up to 17th place in the table.
