Welling have sacked boss Jody Brown after just nine games in charge at Park View Road.
Brown has picked up just one point in that period and suffered eight defeats - including the last seven games in a row.
The Wings are now only out of the Vanarama Conference relegation zone on goal-difference and Saturday's 1-0 defeat at Nuneaton was the final straw for the club's board.
In a statement, Welling said: "The board felt that they had to act immediately in the best interests of the club's short-term aim of avoiding relegation.
"The board would like to place on record their thanks to Jody and his coaching staff for their efforts in the past two months."
Long-serving defender Loui Fazakerley, who has over 200 appearances to his name, will head a caretaker management team for the foreseeable future.
Fazakerley's first game in charge will be Sunday's televised fixture at home to Altrincham (1pm).
Brown's tenure started with a 4-0 Boxing Day defeat at Dover when his team was depleted by illness and injury on the back of an extra-time FA Trophy tie with Ebbsfleet days earlier.
A promising goalless draw at home to Torquay followed but then came defeats to Dover and Forest Green in the new year.
Brown reshaped his squad but the Wings suffered key home defeats to Alfreton and Chester. While performances improved, results didn't as Welling also lost at Macclesfield, Aldershot and Nuneaton.
